Author Interview

I'd love to welcome Laurie Halse Anderson to my blog for an author interview. She is just fabulous and I thank her for taking the time to be here.
1. Wintergirls discusses some dark issues. Is there something about that that intrigues you?

When I was a teen, nobody would talk to me about the dark things in my life. I couldn't even find books that dealt with the gritty things. I hope that my books can make a positive difference in the life of reader who is struggling like I did.

2. The was Wintergirls is written is unique. What made you decide to write like that?

That is the way I heard the character in my head.

3. Who is your inspiration for your writing?

My readers inspire me. If it weren't for their letters and emails, and tearful hugs when I'm on the road, I think I would have given up a long time ago.

4. What is the hardest part about writing a book?

Having to write badly in the early drafts. It's always a battle to shut up the critical voices in my head when I'm writing, but I have to in order to get the story far enough along the revision process that I am not embarrassed to show it to someone.

5. Any advice for teens who want to write?

Don't let anyone tell you it's a dumb idea. It's not!

Thanks again so much! Everyone, be sure to read WinterGirls when it comes out. It was fantastic!

Haha thank you. I was a little worried that she'd be like "what the heck, go away." But she was really sweet!
